As we move through our lives, we observe our surroundings in ways we are sometimes unaware. We take mental pictures of an ever-changing backdrop, which are stored in our visual minds, and become the world around us. At rates too great to comprehend, we discard these snapshots almost as fast as we take them. When we recall what remains in memory, the rest dissapate, never to return. The most important element I think about when I begin a painting is light. How it will change an object's tone and color. Light and atmosphere give weight to the subject. Stormy skies, street lamps and sunlight all have a unique and dramatic effect on the way we see our world. My goal is to show parts of the landscape that are hidden, obscured from our focus, revealing light and beauty in places where one wouldn't think possible. I search for lost images in an archive only my creative conscious can see, and in finding the emotional connection, I find the subject.Read More... |
