The most important element I think about when I begin a painting is light - how it will change an object's tone and color. Light and atmosphere give weight to the subject. Stormy skies, street lamps and sunlight all have a unique and dramatic effect on the way we see our world. My goal is to show parts of the landscape that are hidden, obscured from our focus, revealing light and beauty in places unexpected or overlooked. I search for lost images in the archives of my creative consciousness, and in finding the emotional connection, I find the subject.
